Post-Disaster Psychosocial Care
Post-Disaster Psychosocial Care
Elijah Counselling and Training Centre (ECTC), in collaboration with Carnet Nepal, is implementing a Post-Disaster Psychosocial Care Program in Kispang Rural Municipality to support children, families, and communities affected by the devastating floods.
The program places children at the center of its psychosocial response, recognizing the importance of their emotional well-being, sense of safety, and recovery in the aftermath of a disaster. ECTC is working with schools to promote safe, supportive, and child-friendly environments where children can express their emotions, process distressing experiences, and gradually regain a sense of security and stability. The program also engages teachers through grief and trauma-focused sessions, strengthening their capacity to recognize children's emotional needs and provide appropriate support during the recovery process.
Alongside its school-based interventions, ECTC provides psychosocial care to bereaved family members who have lost loved ones in the floods, offering support as they navigate grief, loss, and emotional distress. The team also engages local leaders to raise awareness of the psychosocial impact of disasters and strengthen community understanding of mental health and emotional well-being.
In addition, individual counselling and psychosocial support are provided to community members who require further assistance during field visits.
Through this collaborative initiative, ECTC aims to strengthen children's emotional recovery, enhance the capacity of schools and caregivers to respond to psychosocial needs, and promote community resilience through accessible, compassionate, and context-sensitive psychosocial care.
